Mark
Thompson
Designer
Mark Thompson (Class of 1969), has an
extensive career as a theatre and corporate designer as well
as a ceramic sculptor with nine polo exhibitions In Sydney,
Perth and Adelaide. Since 1975 his work has been collected,
published and represented In 25 State and public Art Museums
including the National Gallery in Canberra and the Powerhouse
Museum In Sydney.
In 1984 Mark
began designing for theatre and has designed over 50
productions, lie has worked for most of Australia’s theatre
companies Including the State Opera of South Australia,
Australian Dance Theatre, The Theatre Company of South
Australia, The West Australian Theatre Company, The Hole In
the Wall Theatre Company, The Adelaide Festival Centre, Nimrod
Theatre Company, West Australian Performing Arts Academy,
Magpie Theatre Company and Come Out Youth Arts Festival.
Productions
have included The Rover, Much Ado About Nothing, The Glass
Menagerie, Sweeney Todd, The Barber of Seville, Capricornia, A
Winter’s Tale and Macbeth. Recent work includes the
production design for The Hobbit and the recent tour of
Cats -
runaway to the circus.
Corporate clients
include The Hyatt Australian Hotels, the Sheraton Hotel chain,
the Adelaide Grand Prix, The Adelaide Entertainment Centre,
the Adelaide Festival Centre and various commercial ant
government entrepreneurs in Australia and Asia.
In 1998 Mark
was engaged by Madam Tussard’s London, to design their first
touting exhibition In 150 years, which was to Melbourne,
Sydney and Singapore.
This year,
his work has
included
designing the
Independence
Day celebrations for East Timor on behalf
of
the
UN and
the People of East Timor as
well as a
production of
Taming of the Shrew
for Bell
Shakespeare and
production of
Offenbach”s Orpheus in the Underworld
for Opera Australia.
